Workshop Overview
Incorporating corrugated filigree elements into your filigree designs is a great way to enhance your designs and differentiate yourself as a filigree artist.
In this workshop you will:
During the workshop, Milt will demonstrate two different techniques for using corrugated (Zig Zag) filigree wire, including straight and coiled techniques. All demos are live ie no prerecorded material is used.
There will be plenty of time during the workshop for discussion and Q&A.
You will be given time during the workshop to work on the two techniques and Milt will provide feedback directly to you on your technique.
The entire workshop will last about 3 hours. Roughly 1.5 – 2 hrs will be instruction and demo time and roughly 1 – 1.5 hrs will be available for you to work in your studio with Milt observing and providing feedback
Note that there is no requirement for you participate in the studio work time portion of the workshop. This is optional.
Who is this workshop for:
This workshop is suitable for anyone with basic skills in making filigree, who would like to learn how to make and use Corrugated / Zig Zag filigree wire in their filigree designs. You must have taken an Introduction to Filigree workshop from Milt or another instructor and you must be capable of making traditional filigree wire.

- Learn about specialty tools for corrugating your filigree wire, including how to make a simple corrugation tool
- Learn how to make corrugated (Zig Zag) filigree wire
- Learn how to incorporate corrugated filigree wire into your filigree designs
- See demonstrations on how to use corrugated filigree wire in two different types of designs using both coiled corrugated filigree wire and straight corrugated filigree wire

Tools and materials are not provided by the instructor. If you wish to follow along and do the Corrugated Filigree exercises in your studio during the workshop you will need to provide the following tools and materials:

- A filigree wire corrugation tool. There are a couple of corrugation tools available. The corrugation tools cost between $15 and $25 Cad ($12- $20 USA) and are available on Amazon. You will get more info on these tools, as well as Amazon Links, once you register. I also have a few available for sale and pick up at my Calgary studio.
- Tweezers, Preferably type 00
- Flush Cutters
- Bench Block preferably 4” x 4”
- Copper plate 18 Ga thick and about 2” x 2”
- Rolling mill. If you do not own a rolling mill, You can purchase pre-rolled materials from me. Please see materials section below
- Digital Caliper
- Ring Mandrel
- 6” ruler
- Typical jewelers Files
- Chain nose pliers
- Soldering Setup with ventilation, jeweller’s torch, pickle pot, etc
- Clean, flat, solderite block
- Magnification
- Cell Phone with Camera to allow instructor to watch you work and to send photos of your work to instructor
Materials
- Filigree wire – Fine Silver 26GaF0.25 annealed , about 1.2 meters (Approx 4 feet)
- Round Sterling Silver Wire – 16 Ga (1.26 mm diameter) about 15 cm (Approx 6 inches)
- Round Sterling Wire – 20Ga (0.8 mm diameter) about 5 cm (Approx 2 inches)
Also note, that this is NOT corrugated filigree wire. You will be corrugating this wire during the workshop.
Consumables
- Paste Solder ie Rio 103-100 or similar
- Sheet solder hard and medium and your preferred flux
